YMMV / Starship Girl Yamamoto Yohko

Go To

  • Awesome Moments: The old master Hakuhoin barging onto Zenga's ship and beating the crap out of him. The fact that he manages to not just stop but break Zenga's katana with his bare hands speaks for itself.
  • Les Yay: Very subtle but the friendship between Yohko and Ayano seems to be rather close:
    • The flashbacks confirm that they've been friends ever since kindergarten and Yohko did not hesitate to protect Ayano whenever the latter was being threatened.
    • If that's not enough, then episode 17 pretty much drives the point home when Yohko rushes to Ayano's rescue when the latter is being "sacrificed". Even though the whole thing was just an act for the Sea God festival, Yohko had no idea and thus her concern was genuine. It's really debatable whether Yohko's Luminescent Blush was due to embarassment of falling for the act or falling for someone else. The whole thing is topped off with one of the festival people's remark, how they didn't expect a female heroine, instead of a hero, coming to the priestess'note  rescue according to the ancient legend. They muse that even the Sea God must've enjoyed the show.
    • Rouge and Erytron of the Redsnappers also seem to be quite close emotionally.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The encounter with fake Sara Dredd. First she gives Estrantech hell and forces it to escape into the proximity of a star with strong radiation and electromagnetic fiel to conceal Estrantech's presence. When the heroines depart to fight Sara, she makes short work of them via impaling their ships with giant shards materialized out of nowhere. She regenerates all damage, turns into a hideous hybrid of ship and a reptile, completely NoSells the Everblack Cannon and sends otherwise enthusiastic and determined Yohko to flee in terror, relentlessly pursues her all the while exclaiming that she isnt afraid of anything and that she wants to be hurt more. Only by virtue of Momiji's sheer determination is she immobilized to be an easier target. With a frozen mortified expression Yohko is forced to frantically fire the Everblack Cannon at her, until the Wave-Motion Gun overloads and explodes. The last we see of Sara is her "ship" plummeting into the star and it still may not be the end of her. In the aftermath we get to see that Yohko remains in her seat still with that frozen look of terror in her face unable to get up. In other words "Sara" was able to reduce an enthusiastic and nigh-undefeatable Determinator into a mentally scarred wreck in a matter of minutes.
