- Alternate Character Interpretation: Did Phasma always care only about herself or did she grew more and more selfish and sociopathic due to both despair in living in a Crapsack World and Brendol Hux's influence? After all she merely crippled her brother when she could have easily killed him back when they were young and at first seemed to want to move the Scyre to better lands.
- Complete Monster: Captain Phasma note engineered her own family's deaths as part of a cover story to join their rival tribe and later ingratiate herself to the First Order, whom she later aided in the destruction of her home planet. Indoctrinating recruits for the First Order as a Captain in their ranks, Phasma happily assisted in their massacres and war crimes as well. Painfully murdering her former superior Brendol Hux, Phasma also attempted to poison and kill a kindhearted stormtrooper and ruthlessly tried to kill any who knew of her past, including her own young niece. Selling out the codes of the Starkiller Base to save herself from the heroes, Phasma sacrifices loyal soldiers to ease her own escape and later murders a survivor who knew of her treachery, inciting a war between local species on a planet to eliminate them. Afterwards, Phasma kills the TIE pilot who had helped her just to tie up loose ends and when she encounters former-First Order member Finn, tries to torture him to death instead of going for a quick kill to draw out his suffering. A coward who will betray and murder anyone to live a bit longer, Phasma sets the standard for ruthless evil in the First Order, with nobody safe from her cruelty.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Captain Cardinal for being a Commanding Coolness Token Good Teammate who has a Heel–Face Turn after realizing the First Order is a Broken Pedestal. Likewise, Vi Moradi is also one for being a "female Poe Dameron", as Dawson described her.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Fanon liked to believe that Phasma was a Mother To Her Men and joked that she was their Team Mom. The novel reveals that if anything, Phasma couldn't care less about her troopers and that Cardinal was the one who was a Father to His Men.

- Siv. She watches her comrades being killed, one by one, while trying to guide the First Order through Parnassos; is forced to fight and kill her own people and is abandoned by the very people she helped and by Phasma, her commander who she was absolutely loyal to.
- Captain Cardinal. In a matter of less than 24 hours he finds out that Phasma, his colleague, is a far worse monster than he could have possibily imagined; that his mentor/father figure Brendol Hux was a genocidal bastard; that Phasma killed Brendol; that Armitage, Brendol's own son, not only knew that Phasma killed his father but even approved it and that both his superiors clearly favored Phasma over him, despite the fact that Cardinal is truly faithful to the First Order and a true role model, while Phasma is neither. At the end of the story, he desperatly tries to stay sane as these revelations clash with his years of devotion to a supposed righteous cause that clearly no one but him actually believed.
