- Arc Fatigue: The flashbacks can get rather tiresome for those who want to see more action during the time of Rebels.
- Awesome Art: The artstyles and coloring practically makes this series a love letter to Star Wars comics and Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: In the novel A New Dawn, Kanan is called 'kid' several times and snarks he's never answered to that name.
- A popular meme states that Greg Weisman left the show to keep the "Weisman Curse" from catching up to him.note Now he's writing the comic based upon that same show.note
- I Knew It!: In the Rebels episode "Call To Action", Kanan lies to Ezra and says he'll be right behind him, while he's actually intending to hold the line. Most fans theorized that it was something Depa told him when Order 66 happened, which was confirmed in Issue #2.
- Moe: Pepe Larraz seems to have gone out of his way to make Caleb Dume the cutest 14-year-old possible, which is only enhanced by what happens to him.
- Nightmare Fuel:
- The execution of Order 66 from Caleb's perspective. Unlike with some of the Jedi in Revenge of the Sith, the clones under Depa Billaba's command don't get brainwashed in the middle of a battle with the Separatist droid armies. They get brainwashed into trying to kill them just after they were having a friendly conversation during a peaceful moment around the campfire.
- Come the last issue of "The Last Padawan" and a scathing verbal backlash from Caleb, Commander Grey comes to his senses from the brainwashing and doesn't take it well at all. Even more terrifying, he describes the brainwashing as if it was trying to suppress any memories of ever being close allies with Master Billaba and Caleb. Unable to get Styles and the other clones to come to their senses, he resorts to what is essentially a Heroic Suicide combined with Murder-Suicide and Suicide by Cop (the murder part comes from the fact he's willing to get himself and his own brothers killed by taking out their shields in the middle of a skirmish) out of both guilt and wishing to make things right.
- Platonic Writing, Romantic Reading: A few fans have noted that Depa and Kanan's relationship has more than a little bit of a Teacher/Student Romance vibe. Certainly doesn't help that the first time they meet, Depa is half-naked in a bacta tank, while Caleb is starring at her in awe.
- Unexpected Character: Why hello there, Vice Admiral Rae Sloane. And Grand Inquisitor.
