YMMV / Star Trek: Voyager S6 E19: "Child's Play"

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Did Azan and Rebi want to clone Naomi for the science fair or because they each wanted a Naomi of their own? Jim "Reviewboy" Wright seems to think it's the latter.
"Across the room, minding her own project, Naomi blushes. Ally McWildman apparently has a pair of admirers."
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The lengths to which Seven goes to protect Icheb in this episode become a lot more bittersweet after seeing the Star Trek: Picard episode "Stardust City Rag", in which she arrives too late to save him from being vivisected for his Borg implants. One wonders what she might have done to Icheb's parents if he'd been re-assimilated before Voyager could catch up...
  • Informed Wrongness: It is very clear from the reactions of the other characters that we are meant to think of Seven as being overprotective, paranoid or even needlessly rude when it comes to leaving Icheb on this planet (the latter getting her a dressing down from Janeway). And whilst there is a case for that, nothing that Seven says is actually wrong. This is a harsh and desolate planet on the edge of Borg space that we learn in dialogue has been attacked three times in the last nine years. Icheb has absolutely no experience living in a place like this, he has already been kidnapped from it once, and it isn't suited to his very specialised set of needs.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: We get a very nice frontal view of Voyager warping away from the damaged Borg sphere.
