- Genius Bonus: Data has a holodeck session with the hologram of Sigmund Freud, who quickly interprets his dreams as meaning he wishes to possess his mother and find a (possibly violent) outlet for his sexual desire. When Data tried to explain he had neither a mother nor a sex drive, Freud wouldn't listen. This is a classic demonstration of unfalsifiability, a problem that many modern psychologists have with Freud's theories. However, hologram Freud is right on the money about what Data’s dreams actually signify about the threat to the ship.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Inside Data's dreams, he finds himself having a telephone in him. So that makes Data an Android phone. Combine this with "A Fistful of Datas" and you get unlimited Data.
- Memetic Mutation: "It is a cellular peptide cake, with mint frosting."
- Special Effect Failure:
- The "Troi as a cake" scene actually looks okay until we cut to an angle (seen on the main page image) where we can clearly see that Marina Sirtis is lying on a table under the cake, not growing out of it.
- When Riker and Worf discover Data over Troi, brandishing a knife-like tool, Data moves to strike Riker with the tool. As Riker deflects the blow, the “blade” visibly wobbles, indicating that it’s not a metal blade but rubber. (Understandably, as Data is aiming for Riker’s head, and there’s a lot of concern in having a blade that close to Jonathan Frakes’s head in even a brief bit of fighting.)
