- Angst? What Angst?: Everyone seems remarkably calm at the end after turning into monsters and back (which would have to be pretty weird — not to mention traumatic — even for Starfleet), despite the fact that at least one of them killed someone. Crusher (who had her face melted off) also seems pretty blasé over her role in causing the events. Troi seems to think Barclay will be needing some extra sessions, but that's about it; the entire ship should be lined up outside her office after an event like this.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: At the start of the episode, Barclay is in sickbay insisting he's suffering from a deadly plague, only for Dr. Crusher to point out that he's only suffering from a cold and that he needs to "stay away from Starfleet Medical Database." Since the advent of WebMD, this sort of conversation has become incredibly common between doctors and hypochondriacs.
- Special Effects Failure: When Riker gets up from the sickbay bed he was lying on during the prologue, it wobbles far more than a real medical bed would.
