Bizarro Episode: Even for some of the weirdness of season 7, this ghost story is pretty out there. Jonathan Frakes, who directed, once commented that it feels more like a Tales from the Crypt episode.
Broken Base: According to show retrospectives, reception to the episode at the time was divided along gender lines, with men hating it and women loving it, though resistance to the episode was largest among "hard core" fans. Frakes and Gates McFadden both apparently really enjoyed making the episode. However, as decades passed, the episode has become generally regarded as one of the weakest episodes due to its jarring Genre Shift and somewhat bad implications.
