YMMV / Star Trek: The Next Generation S4E16 "Galaxy's Child"

Go To

  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: In "All Good Things...", the possible future shows that Geordi and Leah may end up together after all. They were also supposed to appear together in Star Trek: Nemesis, but Susan Gibney was unavailable, so it was replaced with a conversation between Geordi and Guinan.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Geordi mentions that writing isn't his strong suit. However, in an alternate reality, he becomes quite the proficient novelist, as mentioned in "All Good Things...". Even funnier, in that possible future, he's married to Leah.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Souring the milk" becomes this, mostly thanks to Scotty's reaction to Geordi's retelling towards the end of "Relics."
  • Special Effect Failure: Junior's birthing scene was already a cartoonish looking shot when the episode originally aired, and the remastered version doesn't do it any justice, instead making it look like a video game from the mid 2000s. It doesn't help that Junior is all-CGI while the adults of its species are represented by physical models; this practically guarantees that they're not going to match up well.
  • Values Dissonance: La Forge's actions and attitude toward Dr. Brahms throughout the episode were intended to show how "puppy-love" and "fantasy expectations" can go innocently wrong. In modern times, Geordi's behavior more obviously brushes up against stalking, gaslighting, and sexual harassment, all of which is considered to be abusive. The show never really holds Geordi to complete account. His self-righteous claims that he's only ever tried to be friendly in particular come across as "Nice Guy" behavior. While Geordi admits that he should have told Brahms about his history with her alter-ego, Brahms is the only one who explicitly apologizes for her behavior.
