• Ass Pull: The writers were put in an awkward position as it was already established that Dax had three female hosts before Jadzia, yet Kira was the only other major female character. After putting one of the others in Quark for the pure comedy value, they resorted to bringing back the one shot character Leeta and acting like Jadzia was also good friends with her. This is handwaved by a comment from Odo that Dax and Leeta have been spending a lot of time together (never mind that the first time they met was when Dax interrupted Leeta in the middle of hitting on Bashir).
• Ho Yay: Curzodo grabbing Quark by those sensitive ears, smooching him on the forehead and calling him a magnificent scoundrel. The script directions specify that this moment is "all Odo."
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Sisko agrees to be the host for Joran, Dax's former host that was a murderer. He's shown in this episode to be calm and manipulative, able to trick Dax into releasing him from his cell by pretending to be Sisko, and willing to harm Sisko's body to do it. An episode about Joran running loose in the body of the commander of Deep Space 9 with all his authority and security access could be an episode in itself; instead, Sisko reasserts control a few moments later and Joran sits the rest of the episode out.
