Did Squidward slam the pizza in the customer's face to get revenge for the jerk hurting SpongeBob's feelings, or was it out of frustration for the two of them going through all the trouble for nothing? It's most likely both, as he visibly winces after the customer slams the door in SpongeBob's face and tries to console him when he's clearly about to cry, but you'd be mad too if you spent all day with a person you don't like trying to make a delivery, only to have it be rejected for something so trivial.
Did the customer actually order a drink or not? On one hand, when Mr. Krabs takes the customer's call at the beginning of the episode, the latter can still be heard talking when he hangs up, and he did seem genuinely pleased to get the pizza at first. On the other hand, the fact that A) the customer called for a pizza from a restaurant that neither serves nor delivers pizza and B) refused to let SpongeBob try to explain the situation leaves things up for debate.
Adding to that, the customer could have also called the Krusty Krab as a prank, and when he ends up getting the order he asked for (due to Krabs' refusal to turn down a paying customer), assuming he didn't just make up the drink thing and bully SpongeBob for it, he may have been trying to get out of paying for an order he never actually intended to get. Notably, when Squidward arrives at his door, he doesn't even check for a drink and just curtly proclaims he's not paying for any food.
Fanon: There's popular fan theory that the rude customer is actually Plankton in disguise, given that they both share a voice actor, and his house turns out to be right across the street from the Krusty Krab, on top of both being huge Jerkasses with nasty tempers.
As unlikable as the customer is, his voice actor does an excellent job making him sound so enraged without it sounding exaggerated or cartoony.
Likewise, SpongeBob's crying, provided by Tom Kenny after the rude customer yells at him doesn't sound exaggerated at all. From the way SpongeBob gasps for air every time he takes a breath, you wouldn't be blamed if you thought his actor was actually crying.
Hilarious in Hindsight: SpongeBob's claim that the pioneers used to ride rocks for miles becomes a rather accurate statement when, in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Link is able to use the Stasis Rune to build up kinetic energy on a rock and ride it for miles across the medieval-inspired Kingdom of Hyrule.
The Krusty Krab Pizza SongExplanationA repetitive, yet catchy ditty that SpongeBob sings throughout the episode in a variety of permutations. The song became one of the most well-remembered parts of the episode and the series as a whole among fans, and consequently became a popular subject for YTPMV remixes.
"It's not just a boulder! It's a rock!"ExplanationA quote from SpongeBob detailing his joy at finding a drivable rock. The redundancy of the quote made it popular to parody in reference to other Department of Redundancy Department-style situations.
Squidward trying to entice SpongeBob into eating the pizza.ExplanationSquidward's attempt at trying to have SpongeBob eat the pizza instead of delivering it consists of listing off the ingredients in a tempting fashion before SpongeBob realizes what's happening. The scene became popular to parody in reference to other instances of being almost duped into something.
Pioneers hitchhiking.ExplanationSpongeBob's attempt at hitchhiking pioneer-style consists of a bizarre song and dance. The memorably strange nature of the scene made it a popular source for remixes and edits.
[X] trying to get a pizza from SpongeBob.Explanation Edits of the scene where Squidward chases SpongeBob for the pizza became popular in late 2021, with characters from other franchises, other characters from the show, and objects (including the pizza) and SpongeBob and/or Squidward himself in Squidward's place.
When SpongeBob's spirit is crushed by a rude customer who whines about not getting a drink with his pizza, Squidward picks up the box of pizza, goes back to the customer, and slams the box into his face.
Signature Scene: Squidward throwing the pizza in the customer's face became famous due to being subjected to Memetic Mutation (mostly by replacing Squidward's line with the famous "This is Sparta!" quote from 300).
Accidental Nightmare Fuel: The nematodes are supposed to be funny parodies of vermin with hilariously over-the-top voices, but the fact that they can eat through rocks and boats, as well as drink a house and its commodities clean, the nematodes come off as more intimidating and destructive than they should be.
Patrick's line about "ruining Squid's day" implies that the trouble and annoyance he and SpongeBob cause Squidward frequently may not be so unintentional after all.
Patrick saying that Squidward was taking SpongeBob's moving "real hard" could be meant as a stupid observation, considering Squidward was partying instead, and Patrick isthat dense to make such a mistake. However, it could also be taken as Patrick's sarcastic way of saying Squidward won't miss him in the slightest. It could even be him trying to sugarcoat the truth, to not make his best friend feel even worse than he already does.
Crosses the Line Twice: SpongeBob tearfully leaving Bikini Bottom to move back with his parents would be an utterly heartbreaking moment if it weren't for the fact that a hysterically sobbing Patrick tips the SquarePants family car backward in a desperate attempt to keep him from going away while Squidward does a merry jig celebrating SpongeBob's move in the background.
"Is it time already to ruin Squid's day? SpongeBob, don't start without me!"
SpongeBob causing the background to rotate as he turns a bolt and the Doppler effect of Patrick screaming as he falls into and then out of the sky is just hilarious.
The montage of SpongeBob and Patrick building a new house sees Patrick repeatedly hammering his thumb by mistake.
SpongeBob trying to nail boards together for the ceiling, but each board keeps falling and hitting Patrick on his thumb, so Patrick just moves his workspace back to get out of the way, which doesn't help because the whole thing just turns into a pattern.
Harsher in Hindsight: The plot of SpongeBob losing his home can be rather relatable due to the Housing Crisis in 2007-2009, where many would lose their homes to the crisis.
Like You Would Really Do It: Considering we're only 5 episodes in on this show, nobody was surprised when SpongeBob gets his house back.
Memetic Mutation: The close-up shot of Squidward's eyes shooting open when he realizes SpongeBob is in his bed, a.k.a the perfect reaction meme for Oh, Crap! moments.
Narm Charm: A few fans of the show see Patrick sobbing uncontrollably as this. It's played for a bit of comedy, but for many it's still heartbreaking.
