YMMV / Spider-Geddon

Go To

  • Ass Pull: Veerna being able to casually consume Karn's life force, despite his older self keeping her entire family at bay. The idea that he is suddenly a totem that she can devour like any other makes no sense, nor does the fact that his death breaks the Stable Time Loop that had been established in Spider-Verse.
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • Seeing Spider-Man managing to outwit Morlun and trap him, resulting in the Inheritor being pumped full of tranquilizers and captured. Peter then rips the Inheritor's ego to shreds with a scathing "The Reason You Suck" Speech, pointing out for all their talk superiority, they never plan for anything and thus are basic and predictable. After everything the Inheritors have done and how many times they talk about themselves, it's very satisfying.
    • Miles obliterating Solus with an Enigma Force powered Sword Vigor. Especially after finding out what he did to his children.
  • Complete Monster: Solus. See that page for details.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Spiders-Man quickly gained fans for just the sheer weirdness of thousands of spiders thinking they're Peter, followed by a more devoted following once his backstory and actual feelings on the matter got revealed.
    • Addy Brock and VEN#m, the version of Eddie/Venom from Peni Parker's universe, are quite well liked for being a cool combo of a Symbiote and an EVA, as well as making a sympathetic Rival Turned Evil. Unfortunately, she's thus far only appeared in one issue of "Edge Of Spidergeddon."
  • Fan Nickname: Spider-Man PS4 is the most common nickname for the Spider-Man of Earth-1048.
  • He's Just Hiding: Given his recent appearance in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse only further increasing his Ensemble Dark Horse status, many fans doubt that Spider-Man Noir will be staying dead and indeed he gets resurrected in the next Spider-Verse comic.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Some fans have complained that the story is just a rehash of Spider-Verse; same cast, same plot, same villains... And some don't even consider it the first rehash, thanks to the existence of Venomverse.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: There are quite a few people who are only interested in the event because of the presence of the PS4 Spider-Man.
  • Like You Would Really Do It: One issue tries to hint really hard that Spider-Gwen has made a heroic sacrifice, which probably wouldn't happen with an extremely popular character who at that time both had a new series planned and was set to debut in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. That same issue reveals that she's alive in the end, and it has zero surprise to it.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
  • Sequelitis: Though not bad by any means, it proved to be far less popular than its predecessor and mostly felt like retreading familiar territory.
  • Shocking Moments: The Inheritors killing the Great Weaver, the issue after that, Norman Osborn Spider-Man apparently blowing up the Web of Life and Destiny.
  • Spoiled by the Format
    • Miles Morales: Spider-Man (2018) is set after the end of the Spider-Geddon story, but the first issue was released before the last issue of the event. It does not say much (there's just Miles at home after an adventure, with the caption confirming it's Spider-Geddon), but something is sure: whatever happens in the end, Miles Morales will survive. Also, if you read the ending after the MMSM first issue, it is also clear that Miles will not keep the power boost of the Enigma force he got at the climax.
    • Same goes for the main Spider-Man, who has his own comic books. Of course that Morlun wouldn't be able to kill him.
    • Spider-Gwen had her own comic book, starting alongside the event. So, when she seemed to die (with the new run still unpublished) it was clear that she would still be alive somehow. And the comic book is scheduled to continue after the event, so yes, she will survive it.
    • This event kicks off the relaunch of Superior Spider Man so it stands to reason that Otto will survive.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Mayday and Anya meets with the Peter and MJ of the The Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows universe. They are shocked when they see her because, like mainstream continuity, the Mayday of their universe died stillborn. MJ is still clearly hurt by it.
    • The same emotion, if more subtle, goes for Mayday as she meets the Peter of Renew Your Vows universe since his counterpart's death in Spider-Verse has affected her deeply.
    • Spiders-Man's backstory in Vault of Spiders #2. He used to be Peter Parker until an accident caused him to fall into a hole full of thousands of radioactive spiders that completely devoured his body, but instead of dying, the spiders house his consciousness. But the true heartbreaking moment comes when he saves Gwen Stacy and she discovers who and what he is and tries to help him find a way to turn him back to normal, but he declines, because he doesn't see himself as a human anymore, only a big monstrosity.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • It may be a brief panel, but one of the Spiders with Peter and Spider-Gwen is Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Seeing as both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Macguire's Spideys couldn't show up in the original Spider-Verse story, it's nice to see one of the movie Spideys show up.
    • The fact that, after not being able to appear in Spider-Verse for legal reasons, the Andrew Garfield version of Spider-Man makes an appearance during the climactic battle of the story.
