- Alternate Character Interpretation: Aunt Emily— was she really enflamed with passion after being raped by Ralph, and attacked him out of jealousy when she saw him manhandling Ann, or was she dazed from the trauma, and attacked him in a lucid moment of righteous fury?
- Nausea Fuel: The food in the dinner scene. A mutilated "rabbit" (really a cat that Ralph had hunted in a previous scene), "salad" that's seems to just be weeds, and mushrooms that may or may not be poisonous. And that's not even mentioning the black bug-filled goop Virginia eats; even the other Merrye house residents are grossed out by that.
- No Yay: Virginia attempting to seduce her Uncle Peter, as well as Ralph's peeping on and subsequent assault on Aunt Emily.
- Retroactive Recognition: Sid Haig, who would later be best known for playing characters in Jack Hill's Blaxploitation movies and for potraying Captain Spaulding of Rob Zombie's Firefly clan (House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, 3 from Hell) plays Ralph.
- Squick: While Ralph is mentally a toddler which makes him seem rather cute, the audience is given a grotesque reminder of him being physically adolescent when he rapes Aunt Emily.
- Unfortunate Character Design: Mr. Schlocker's haircut and mustache cause him to bear a striking resemblance to Adolf Hitler. This underscores the character's unsavory disposition and eventual status as an Asshole Victim.
