YMMV / South Park S 21 E 7 Doubling Down

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight: Kyle gives a speech to Heidi about how Cartman is always Playing the Victim Card, how he always makes his problems the fault of other people, never acknowledges that he could be in the wrong, and will likely never change because of this. This is proven 100% true at the end of "The Return of COVID"; Cartman's toxic behavior eventually reached the point that absolutely everyone cut him out of their lives, resulting in Cartman ending up as a drunken hobo who did nothing with his life, while still screaming insults at people on the street, content to continue blaming everyone else for his problems so that he could be a victim forever.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Cartman's fake Beyond KFC became this after the real KFC introduced beyond fried chicken.
  • Moral Event Horizon:
    • Cartman crosses it by tricking the vegan Heidi into eating KFC and Arby's, and has begun molding her into what he views as the perfect girlfriend.
    • Garrison loses all the sympathy he had acquired in the previous episode, when he abuses and rapes Paul Ryan and his Cabinet, and also rapes a Russian diplomat to death simply because he was a foreigner.
  • Squick: Garrison without pants, wearing a giant strap-on dildo.
  • Tear Jerker: Heidi is doubtful of the "Beyond KFC" that Cartman is showing her is the real thing. She doesn't question him even when she eats it, or even that Beyond Arby's seem to upset her. And keep in mind: She can easily look those things up and find them to NOT be real (at the time), this means that Heidi trusts Cartman SO much she can't even bare to question or fact check him when he is messing up her diet... that HE asked HER to teach HIM to be on.
  • The Woobie:
    • Again Heidi poor, poor Heidi. Not only is she constantly being kept in a toxic relationship with Cartman, but now he is tricking her, a vegan, into eating KFC and Arby's. If that wasn't enough, her friends keep on pressuring her to break up with Cartman, but when she does break up with him all they do is demean her for ever dating him in the first place, causing her to go back to him again so she won't feel stupid in front of her friends. She's also starting to veer into Jerkass Woobie territory as she is now following Cartman's anti-Semitic beliefs.
    • Kyle doesn't fare much better in this episode either. He is the only one who knows Heidi is an unfortunate victim of a toxic relationship and genuinely wants to help her get out of it, even if a good chunk of that reason is so he can date her himself. In the end Kyle gets dumped by Heidi because she is being manipulated by Cartman into supporting his anti-Semitic views.
