- Harsher in Hindsight: Stan's alienation from his friends, his family falling apart, and eventual turn to alcoholism (the latter of which persists even after things are seemingly back to normal) is almost a perfect window into the future he would later have.
- He Really Can Act: Trey Parker during Stan's tearful speech to Mr. Mackey. It's as genuine and dramatic as it sounds.
- Tear Jerker: Stan's speech to Mr. Mackey about how he cannot enjoy life if nothing makes him happy.
- The Woobie: Stan, continuing from the previous episode. After losing his friends and having his family torn apart, he is denied any professional help for his depression (due to the adults' stupidity) and gets manipulated by a group of psychotic sci-fi fanatics. Even when things turn back to normal, things don't get much better for him.
