Genre Turning Point: In retrospect, the most noteworthy thing about Soulja Boy was that he was the first artist whose success came about almost entirely via the internet and viral popularity. His formula for success would be followed by a multitude of rappers in the following years, leaving a legacy much larger than his music's critical reputation would suggest.
Hilarious in Hindsight: In "Anime", he mentions "Pikachu Diamonds". A few years later, Young Thug would release a song named "Picacho", which had him claim that his diamonds said "Pikachu".
"I'm so fresh you can suck my nuts. I'm so fresh you can suck my nuts (sa-wag!). I'm so fresh you can suck my nuts..."
"Quavo say he want some beef with me...Quavo..." Really, all of "Beef," just for being so incompetent as a diss track.
After his end-of-2018 Breakfast Club interview, "DRAAAAAAKE?!"
The very first line of "Kiss Me Thru the Phone", being "BABY", became used in tandem with pictures of gonky cartoon babies, starting with Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants.
Overshadowed by Controversy: It's almost impossible to come across meaningful discussion of Soulja Boy nowadays without somebody having the need to rag on him for his failed attempt at making a bootleg video game console.
Unintentional Period Piece: The music video to "Soulja Boy" was dated even when it came out. By then, YouTube had already become the main hub for videos and Soulja Boy's baggy clothes were out-of-fashion.
What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" was a huge dance fad, but the song itself isn't clean and it's one of his tamest songs. It likely helps that the lyrics are hard to understand.
