YMMV / Sonic Runners

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Surprisingly, the game features an original soundtrack despite taking levels from Lost World. Of course, given that this is Sonic the Hedgehog we're talking here, all of the tracks are fantastic, with many of them being upbeat and energetic tunes that suit the game's endless running nature perfectly,
  • Character Rerailment: Knuckles, who goes back to his treasure-hunting adventurer persona from the Adventure games.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome:
    • If you're A or S rank, odds are that you're using Shahra. Her ability gives a random non-colour powerup every combo of 440 and 400 (400 and 360 for Flight characters), respectively, which, barring her giving you springs, ranges from very good to extremely useful.
    • There's also Erazor Djinn. When maxed, he gives you a shield for every combo of 1000, which is vital after Eggman 3 when there are no more Rings and a single mistake will end the run.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • While it's undecided on which is actually better, Team Rosenote  and Team Darknote  are both this, due to animals being worth a lot of points for the former, and that the bonus applies to everything for the latter.
    • Due to the Halloween event, Team Mech has become this. Having Omega and Halloween Omega in the same team make for a combined enemy bonus of 450%. Using the new Boo companion changes every enemy to a super enemy and boosts the enemy score for killing them by 500% after every certain combo, and the new King Boom Boo companion has a chance of giving a 1000% enemy bonus for every enemy killed. All of this stacks up making it possible for multiple enemies in a row to have a 1,950% enemy score. This has actually lead to scores that are so high that players have been banned because hacking was suspected.
  • Game-Breaking Bug: The worldwide release completely trashed the game, with the iOS version crashing at random - making it near impossible to complete a run or the celebration event for releasing it - whereas the Android version just outright won't play the game without an incredibly convoluted process. Though even if you do the process, it's still prone to crashing at random. Sega has since patched both iOS and Android.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The game's data contain portraits of what is presumably a Metal Eggman character. It looks way spookier than one would expect, like it is some sort of Frankenstein's monster.
  • That One Sidequest: Take Out X Golden Enemies Daily Challenges can be this since the Gold Enemies are far and few between and since the whole game is a auto runner you can't turn back to try get them again. It doesn't help if you character whizzes by everything on screen only to see at the last second.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • A fandom reaction after update 2.0.0. It nerfs everything beneficial, increases the amount of points required to progress in the story to ludicrous levels, and adds in spike ball/drill placements after Eggman 3 that are unavoidable unless one manages to be on a specific path (although these were later removed). Everything is detailed here.
    • Update 2.0.3 removed ads from the game, which may SOUND like a good thing, but that also means that the ability to get one free revive per run by watching an ad was also removed.
  • Unexpected Character: The returning playable characters, as well as returning companion characters from Sonic Unleashed and Sonic and the Black Knight. Particularly surprising are Mephiles, who was erased from history in his first appearance, and Sticks, who is from an entirely separate continuity.
