  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Around the release of INTERLOPER 8, fans began to become split on whether Anomidae is really as much of a neutral researcher as their own series paints them as. Taking the ambiguity around what exactly Project Skybox is and who is involved with it, some viewers have begun to interpret Anomidae as an Unreliable Narrator who is intentionally keeping the less-savoury parts of the investigation out of their videos, and who isn't that different from Eida and their slow descent into obsession over the mystery.
  • Awesome Music: The theme song "devText", by Pumodi, played in the outro and episode 5. An inspiring tune that beautifully conveys the mystique and wonder of the Source engine, while still rocking out.
  • Broken Base: Episode 7 received a divisive reception over the sudden tonal shift from a digital horror mystery to something resembling more of a scientific documentary. While some appreciated the episode for showing a willingness to experiment with presentation, pivoting away from the "Source Engine ARG" style for something more original, others expressed their disappointment over the shift to something they perceived as more bland, sterile, and lacking in the horror department.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • 7local doesn't have a huge role in the story beyond participating in the original Interloper thread and later uploading the classic Source clips compilation that happened to contain MISTY, but they have an ironic fanbase nonetheless.
    • "Hi Guy", the POV character of a Type 5 demo generated during the Episode 8 livestream, who spots an Umbrella Man floating in the distance and says "Hi" to him repeatedly for several minutes, then starts dancing to music playing from a radio that inexplicably spawns in next to him, while still saying "Hi" repeatedly, until the Umbrella Man eventually comes after him and kills him. Needless to say, the goofiness of the demo earned him an instant fanbase, and you'll find plenty of comments on both the livestream and accompanying episode praising him and mourning his death.
  • Genius Bonus: Watching the series is helped by having some in-depth familiarity with how the Source Engine works, with the videos briefly explaining many concepts for those who aren't.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Using "interlope" as a general verb in much the same way as "morbing" has become quite popular in the community.
    • The BLU Scout's jumpscareExplanation
  • Moment of Awesome: Episode 5, the scene demonstrating Anomidae's various expeditions into the void. It's sure to inspire a sense of profound discovery, especially when combined with a vast 3D diagram and the theme song mentioned above.
