YMMV / Skullmonkeys

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: None of the bosses in this game can be described as remotely difficult, but the last one, Klogg, is a complete joke, and might arguably be the easiest. There's still one level to complete after beating him, though, and it's absolutely hellish.
  • Awesome Music: THE WHOLE SOUNDTRACK. It contains rather unique and great songs arranged by Terry Scott Taylor. One may point out Death Garden Jive, EEEEEEEEEEEE!, Musical Fruit and The Lil' Bonus Room (which completely destroys the fourth wall) as good examples.
    • The hidden ending song "Klogg Is Dead" also deserves a mention.
  • Funny Moments: Random skullmonkey plays with a hamster. Said hamster crawls into his skull through the eyesocket and squirms about inside. Skullmonkey enters a fit of panic. Hilarity Ensues.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The song "The Lil' Bonus Room" features the line "I get residuals for every game that's sold," which in context is an amusing fourth-wall break. But it started to become this when the game entered abandonware status. And then turned into full-on Fridge Sadness when, in 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery purged huge chunks of their catalogue to avoid paying residuals on them.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Joe-Head-Joe is extremely unsettling. Between being a realistic human head in a cartoony game, being fought in a stage that's made of entrails, and one of his attacks involving him firing his eyeballs from his eyesockets at the player which make slimy sounds, it's as if he was designed to be as creepy and nauseating as possible.
    • The monstrous Skullmonkey stalking Klaymen in the Beans cutscene before having its skull melted by Klaymen's bean induced fart.
  • Ugly Cute: The Skullmonkeys. They act how you would expect typical monkeys to behave, but have skinless and misshapen skulls where their heads are supposed to be.
