• Alternative Character Interpretation:
  • In the movie, does Sam truly regret cheating on Allie and truly love her, or is he just a shallow clod like he was in the original novel?
  • Hedy and her psychosis lends itself to a lot of this trope.
• Hollywood Homely: Jennifer Jason Leigh complains about how much more attractive Bridget Fonda is than her. Then again, it's probably justified in that she clearly has issues.
• Memetic Mutation: Any movie, TV show, or Real Life instance of someone beginning to imitate someone else's style—particularly their hairstyle—is all but guaranteed to result in a mention of this movie.
• Moral Event Horizon:
  • Possibly Hedy throwing the puppy out of the window, depending on whether or not she truly felt bad about it afterwards or if that was an act. Whatever the case, most viewers find the act a lot more horrible than the killing of her two human victims.
  • Mitchell attempting to rape Allie.
• Retroactive Recognition: Stephen Tobolowsky as Mitchell Myerson would go on to become Ned Ryerson a year later. Go figure.
• She's Just Hiding: There are many viewers who think this about Hedy after the end of the film.
• Signature Scene: Hedy descending down the salon staircase, sporting the same haircut and hair color as Allie.
