  • Awesome Music: For a post-hardcore band who have quite the scene gathering, they have a huge amount of these. Discovering the Waterfront is often considered their greatest work for this reason.
    • Their post-Waterfront albums are no slouches, in particular with A Shipwreck in the Sand and This Is How the Wind Shifts. Dead Reflection surprised people too.
  • Awesome Art: The artwork from When Broken Is Easily Fixed to This Is How the Wind Shifts done by Martin Wittfooth garners a lot of approval, even by those who hate the band's music.
  • Broken Base: Everything post-Waterfront tends to be frowned upon by fans due to the more approach to mainstream demographics, especially for those who love Shane's screams. Arrivals and Departures tends to be the most contested release due to how more "accessible" it is and less post-hardcore.
    • The band dropping the usage of Martin Wittfooth's art style following I Am Alive in Everything I Touch feels like this for fans who feel Wittforth's illustrations added a sense of majesty to them. While Witthforth did do illustrations for the album, it was delegated more for the booklet and not the covers.
    • Was Neil Boshart's departure just that or was he fired?
  • Growing the Beard: When Broken Is Easily Fixed, while liked in some circles, still felt rough around the edges upon release. Discovering the Waterfront? OH MAN.
  • Narm: Detractors consider Shane's very angst-ridden lyrics as such.
    • Discovering the Waterfront's cover. A lonely and downbeat man poking the water around him near a waterfall. Huh.
    • "Giving Up", while a heartbreaking song, features poor acting and fish lens visuals of all things.
  • Nightmare Fuel: While the band doesn't convey this in their music, they've still got those moments:
    • "My Heroine" sounds like the protagonist is losing their sanity, whether through a breakup or drugs. The music doesn't help.
    • The cover of When Broken Is Easily Fixed: A robot holding its heart with cables still connected to it. Yikes!
    • "I Am the Arsonist", holy crap, "I Am the Arsonist".
    BURN!!!
