YMMV / Silent Hill: Ascension

Go To

  • Memetic Mutation:
    • IT'S TRAUMA!note
    • BerryMan, the random Avatar cameo that came out of nowhere, rambled about collecting berries, implies he did see something interesting but never explains it, and then leaves. He became the perfect star example of how utterly disjointed and nonsensical the attempts at a story were thanks to its format pre Re-Cut.
  • Narm:
    • The concept of Audience Participation would've been interesting.. if it didn't mean the audience could influence the most random of potential outcomes into happening. The result is that entire plot lines come and go without explanation or completion, the random Avatar cameos often became a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, and seemingly major characters will just abruptly die because the worst possible option got picked, only to get replaced and either continue the plot or completely move onto something else like nothing prior mattered.
    • Whether due to voice direction, or some sort of unconfirmed text to speech setup, virtually every character is absolutely wooden or a LargeHam in overdoing their lines, with no real in-between. Many characters came off as just uninterested in anything happening around them as a result.
  • Never Live It Down: "INTIMACY" involved its protagonist Eric having to submit to a cult orgy in order to save his daughter. It rapidly became the most disliked upload of the entire already-controversial story and the most infamous portion of the entirety of Ascension.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The Audience Participation aspect of Ascension can fall apart very quickly when someone who shelled out a lot of money for a massive sum of Influence Points can sway the vote during a choice in their favor with no chance of others being able to sway the vote back.
