YMMV / Shrek 4D

Go To

  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: During the first chase scene, Donkey gets flung right at the audience and is apparently able to see them, as after Shrek pulls him back into the carriage, he remarks, "I just saw into another dimension!" Shrek ignores this comment, and the scene is never brought up again afterwards.
  • Critic-Proof: Despite being generally unpopular with fans, the attraction for a while was one of the highest rated in the parks and had wait times that went over an hour. However, the popularity of it among the general public appears to have died down now; as it now only manages 10-15 minute wait times on average.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Shrek and Fiona finally being reunited towards the end.
    • On the night the location in Orlando closed down for good, many Shrek fans sang "Hallelujah" from the first movie in memoriam of the attraction. Watch it here.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Humpty Dumpty was buried at the creepy cemetery.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Similar to how Star Tours and Indiana Jones Adventure unintentionally foreshadow Disney buying Lucasfilm, this ride, both based on a DreamWorks Animation property and made for Universal, can be seen as foreshadowing for NBCUniversal eventually buying DreamWorks.
  • Replacement Scrappy: Fans of the former Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies show usually view the attraction as this for the Florida version.
  • Signature Scene: The fireball battle between Dragon and the stone dragon along with the subsequent Aerial Canyon Chase is commonly cited as the most memorable part of the attraction.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The Hollywood version of Shrek 4-D had its pre-show truncated in 2015, and added an audio-animatronic Donkey to interact with the guests. Not only is the Donkey interaction rather annoying while people are waiting in line to watch the show, but the truncation actually leaves a massive Plot Hole as the original pre-show addressed the back-story of Shrek and Fiona.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: In a sense with some of the attraction's dated pop-cultural references and its continued use of older 3-D technology.
