YMMV / Shonen Note: Boy Soprano

  • Awesome Art: The manga has a pretty art-style that takes advantage of its Cast of Snowflakes.
  • Diagnosed by the Audience: Yutaka's unusual sensitivity to sound is emotional as well as aural. As one of the teachers explains to the choir club, everyone is emotionally affected by certain noises to some extent, such as becoming anxious when you hear a car horn, but the way sounds affect Yutaka is especially strong. He can very easily become emotionally overwhelmed by strong feelings to a way that is surprising to others, and though he has gotten better at handling these emotions as he's gotten older, something as simple as losing his temper and yelling at others is enough to make him physically ill enough to vomit. Some fans have noted that these traits can be interpreted as autism or sensory processing disorder— in particular, the panel in which the teacher compares Yutaka's condition as being similar to walking around with a parabolic microphone, always trying to navigate a flood of noise coming from all directions, is similar to how some autistic people are affected by sound.
  • LGBT Fanbase: It's a Yuhki Kamatani manga after all. It helps that there's a fair sum of Ho Yay/Homoerotic Subtext/Ship Tease between characters and there are a few canonically LGBT characters.
