- Ass Pull: The last couple of books build up Kusac adopting the mantle of Zshadi and leading a revolt against the M'Zullian Valtegan leadership. Instead, the M'Zullians are conveniently defeated using mind-controlling nanites dispersed on a planetary scale.
- Base-Breaking Character: Kezule.
- Funny Moments:
- Kaid calling Dr. Vanna for midwifery advice just after Carrie gives birth.
- Also, when The Stoic Kaid does the Sholan equivalent of the Puppy-Dog Eyes to stop Noni from being mad at him in Stronghold Rising. It works.
- Popular with Furries: Not to a huge extent, but being a series based around anthropomorphic feline aliens it has attracted some attention from the fandom.
- Squick: Kusac and Zayshul. This started out innocently enough, with Kusac being manipulated by forces outside of his control and Zayshul just sort of along for the ride. Eventually though, we have to wonder if our Designated Hero has become the Fallen Hero due to the seductive call of The Dark Side that Zayshul presents.
- Tear Jerker:
- The funeral for Carrie and Kusac's first cub in the second book.
- During a mission to save the Human/Sholan hybrid cubs from the Valtegans, one of the cubs is killed by a ricocheting projectile.
- The death of Jo and Rezac in the final book. Due to the nature of the Leska link, Jo's death dooms Rezac, but gives him enough time to say his goodbyes.
