YMMV / Shattered Skies: The Morning Lights

Go To

  • Ass Pull: Sayaka allying with Joker is later presented as her having been The Mole all along. Unfortunately the execution falls flat as every instance that shows her POV prior to the reveal is Sayaka thinking of nothing but the suffering she will inflict upon Homura.
  • Fanfic Fuel: More than Hotaru, Fate Testarossa shares many traits with Homura, both being a Love Martyr to their respective loved ones. Both forced to do terrible things out of their own will and experienced so much horror that they become desensitized to it. Fate is an appealing character to bounce off of Homura for the many similarities and burdens she carries.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Replace The Entity with Supreme and erase every Cure team from Maho prior instead of after and you basically have Pretty Cure All Stars F. Bonus points for both taking place in an isolated reality detached from any other pre-existing world.
  • Salvaged Story: Initially, the story was a case of Too Bleak, Stopped Caring due to the rather oppressive tone used throughout the first and second acts that readers eventually dipped out of it. The author grew aware of this, and by the third act, gave the heroes their second wind and had them make a dent in the villains' strength.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Several readers have vocally expressed sympathy with Homura, and the unfair way she is treated as as if she is Made of Evil for actions that were caused, by many viewers, as a result of mental torture, misunderstanding, and otherwise being far from the right state of mind in the original source. The fact that Kyubey, who is responsible for creating the conditions of Rebellion in the first place, is basically ignored in the blame game to focus entirely on Homura further highlights this.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Sayaka's irrational, blind hatred that leads her to teaming up with a genocidal maniac hell bent on destroying everything because Homura... .makes them relive middle school days. In retaliations, she joins up with Joker, a morally depraved villain, who aims to bring about the end of everything, just to take revenge for Homura for trapping them in a loop of relative peace and happiness. Though this ends up subverted later on with the reveal she was faking it.
    • Fantine gets a mention for doing what exactly everyone condemns Homura for, without suffering any kind of repercussion for crippling an immensely helpful ally in Homura.]] And unlike Homura, she doesn’t have the same Freudian Excuse of a Trauma Conga Line, making her look exactly as bad as everyone claims Homura is.
