  • Alternate Aesop Interpretation: While many of the lessons in the series are clear-cut, a few are rather esoteric. For example, the official lesson of Morgan Morning is “Sometimes we must lose in order to gain”; however, it could also be “Listen to your mother and don’t run off, or you may get injured or die” or “Curiosity killed a cat”. The Dream Tree is supposed to teach “Though it is sometimes hard to wait, growing up comes soon enough”, but seems to be more at “Some experiences just can’t be described; you have to grow into them and live them for yourself”.
  • Fridge Horror: Another interpretation of Morgan Morning is that Morgan actually died but gets reincarnated as a unicorn.
  • Tear Jerker: Particularly Morgan Morning but other stories surely qualify.
  • Values Dissonance: The messages of the books are pretty much timeless, but given the number of books in the series, a few of them may not have aged well. Morgan Morning contains an example of Corporal Punishment (albeit in horse terms) and Glitterby Baby seems to be predicated on the notion that the mother should almost automatically get the child when parents split up (though in fairness, the child in the story chooses to go with her mother and allowing her to make that choice could be seen as Fair for Its Day or Values Resonance).
