- Critical Dissonance: The movie was acclaimed by many critics and won some awards, but for others it is considered mediocre at best. Even fans of Nina Paley consider it a big step backwards from her previous film for its considerable Author Tract and numerous uses of Straw Misogynist.
- Overshadowed by Controversy: Around the time this film came out it (and Sita) have been overshadowed by Nina Paley's outspoken transphobic and anti-theist beliefs.
- Signature Scene: The "This Land is Mine" segment is the most well-known part of the film, with it usually going viral whenever the Arab–Israeli Conflict heats up.
