YMMV / Secrets Of Summer

Go To

  • Abandon Shipping: Luz/Naty decreased in popularity by season 2, mostly because Naty was Put on a Bus at the end of season 1, with Luz still getting together with her longtime crush Tony, also Steffi's coach.
  • Captain Obvious Reveal: The fact that Naty had a crush on Luz was pretty obvious to the audiences since the first day they met and were paired up as roommates.
  • Designated Hero: Steffi is far from being seen as the hero of the story. She knew about Natasha's crush on Santi, but still pursued him without a care of how this would affect her friend, so Steffi is the reason why the whole conflict with Natasha started in the first place. Of course, it was unforgivable of Natasha to commit environmental crimes to restyle the hotel, which she and her brother Oliver had bought, but she was totally right to be pissed at Steffi for backstabbing her. Also, when Natasha forces Steffi to compete on the condition that Cielo Grande is hers for the taking if she wins, Steffi was unwilling to back down when she was clearly not in a good shape to do so, especially since she had deliberately missed several days of training. She even cheated on Julian, with her ex-boyfriend Santi. But still, the show portrays Steffi as "the victim", with even her friends thinking she lost unfairly, and it was all Natasha's fault.
  • Die for Our Ship: Santi, Steffi's ex-boyfriend, is reasonably attacked by Steffi/Julián fans for his attempts to get back together with Steffi even though she's not interested in him anymore.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Natasha. While it doesn't excuse any of her actions in the second season, she and Steffi used to be friends, but this came to a heat when Steffi dated Santi, whom Natasha obviously liked, without even telling her beforehand that she liked him as well.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: You wouldn't be a Pili Pascual fan if you hadn't seen Go! Live Your Way, even so if you didn't choose to watch this show for her amazing heartful performance as Steffi Navarro.
  • Les Yay: If you watch the series for Naty and Luz, then you can't deny that there is a strong chemistry between them in most of their scenes together.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Natasha crosses it in the second season when she orders that all of the hotel's trees be cut down, which would affect the zone's ecosystem. Later on, when the Cielos protest against this, Natasha takes it too far by threatening to have the lumberjack boat run them over unless they relent. Thank heavens is a show aimed at kids, as Natasha is fortunately foiled when the lumberjacks are arrested by the prefecture.
  • Ron the Death Eater: Steffi got this very bad from the fans in the second season. She is painted as a cruel entitled bitch for not letting Natasha be happy with Santi and even cheating on Julián with him, despite admitting to kissing him and apologizing to Julián for it.
  • The Scrappy: Santi, for only existing to cause trouble for Steffi and Julián, aside from also being the instigator behind her feud with Natasha. Even Steffi's friends, Julián included, don't like him either.
  • Strawman Has a Point: Tony was understandably right to push Steffi into accepting Natasha's proposition to parttake in the all-female wakeboard competition, only for Steffi to refuse him multiple times. Then, when he sends Luz to convince Steffi on his behalf, she doesn't take it well and accuses Tony of only caring about his career and not respecting her wishes, and even lashes out at Luz for taking his side on the matter. However, by the time she gets eliminated from the competition, Steffi feels guilty for not taking his advice before. But instead of calling her out or saying "I told you so", Tony simply assures Steffi that she's not to blame and chooses to put all the blame on Natasha, explaining that the deal with Natasha was just too rushed and they didn't have enough time to train.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: No one's gonna deny or excuse Natasha's cruel actions against the characters, especially Steffi. But can you really blame her? While she's no saint, most fans sympathized with her when it was learned that her crush on Santi, Steffi's ex-boyfriend, wasn't reciprocated and Steffi showed no remorse at all for disregarding Natasha's negative feelings about this.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • In the eighth episode of the first season, Charly is seen as this when he shoots down Naty's suggestion of including butterflies alongside sharks in the promotional video for Sky Vibes, arguing that it doesn't make any sense, which visibly and openly offends her, even going as far as calling them "awful" when he tried to test her to see if Naty was fine without including the butterflies, only resulting in him increasing her anger further. Even if Charly later apologized and included the butterflies to make up for his past behavior, he was still out of line for doing such thing as he hurt Naty's feelings with his blunt opinion.
    • Steffi became this in the second season for starting a relationship with Santi and not considering how it might hurt Natasha, her former best friend, who had a crush on Santi as well, with it being the main reason why Natasha became mean to her in the first place. Her "It wasn't planned, it just happened" excuse doesn't really help matters.
    • Luz even acted like a jerk to Tony when he turned down her request that he coach her since Steffi didn't want to participate in Natasha's competition, only because Tony said that it would mess up their relationship. However, Luz misconstrues his words thinking he's lacking confidence in her. This only got worse when Tony at one point tried to leave Cielo Grande without saying goodbye, even though he explained the reason why he didn't do it.
  • The Woobie: Naty becomes one at a very lesser extent. She's revealed to have a crush on Luz, who is completely in the dark about this and her attention is all focused on Tony. To top it off, Naty sees Luz and Tony kissing and stares longingly at the scene with a sad look on her face, so it's not hard to feel bad for her.
