  • Broken Base: The final crossover novel, Night Fall, has the fans divided on whether or not it managed to live up to the hype of what was supposed to be both a grand finale for the Nightside/Secret Histories books and an epic showdown between the Droods and the residents of the Nightside. Some say it delivers on both fronts, offering an enormous battle between both series' characters and enough twists and turns in the story to make the story memorable. Others feel that the numerous undignified deaths on both sides (especially in the Nightside camp) and the generally bizarre treatment of various established characters note  held the novel back, as did a few promising narrative developments that essentially led nowhere. (such as Lilith being brought back from Limbo so that the Nightside characters can attempt to set her loose against the Droods, only to reveal that the once-intimidating Physical Goddess has settled down in her time away.)
  • Complete Monster: The Drood family as the protectors of humanity have faced many nasty villains. A list of the worst of the worst can be found in the franchise page.
  • Funny Moments: In a very dark example, at the end of Daemons Are Forever, the drone inside Molly is holding her hostage with a knife to her throat, and Giles and Eddy ignore the situation (knowing that if it does kill Molly, that's what she would want, since she would rather die than be fully possessed ) to argue about who gets to make the Heroic Sacrifice. It gets very put out that they're not paying attention, and keeps petulantly reminding them that hey, hostage situation here, until Giles reaches out and takes the knife casually, then resumes the argument like nothing happened.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Grendel Rex, real name Gerard Drood, is a man who desired to be a god and carve his face into the moon after the death of his beloved wife Elspeth. Trying to usurp and recreate humanity, Gerard allowed his family to defeat and seal him away so he could return later when they grew complacent. Gerard manipulates villains such as Edmund Drood, knowing Edmund will require the help of Gerard, and allow Gerard to usurp the plan later. After this, Gerard begins to put his plan into motion, only to cease when he meets Morgana le Fay, the two falling in Love at First Sight. Departing, Gerard leaves the hero Eddie with one last piece of knowledge: that the face he tried to sear into the moon was actually Elspeth's.
  • Moral Event Horizon: The Satanic conspirators led by Peter McAlphine in For Heaven's Eyes Only intended to push all of humanity beyond this, in the eyes of Heaven, via the Great Sacrifice. They plan to brainwash humanity into murdering their children which would damn the entire world to hell's influence.
