  • Values Dissonance:
    • Like other appearances in the cartoons, Mammy Two-Shoes' role in this short is rooted in Black stereotypes — in addition to her exaggerated AAVE dialect, her jewelry is intentionally over-the-top to indicate Delusions of Eloquence and she spends her nights out gambling (an activity stereotypically associated with Black communities). Consequently, her scenes were redone in 1966 to replace her with a white teenager who goes out for a party.
    • The plot of the short revolves around jazz music being treated as subversive youth music that attracts raucous hoodlums, reflecting its transgressive image at the time (itself rooted in backlash towards its Black origins and dominance by Black and Jewish artists). Almost a century later, when jazz is seen as niche "musician's music" primarily enjoyed by wealthy older white listeners, the idea of Tom throwing a wild jazz party comes off as humorously quaint.
