YMMV / Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Was Takezo changed for the better after his imprisonment in Himeji Castle? He treated Otsu far better in this film than he did in Duel at Ichijoji Temple, where he had a Near-Rape Experience.
  • Iron Woobie: Takezo. He barely makes it out of a war he was on the losing side of, only to find himself hunted down by the people in his own town, who kill samurai who are on the losing side of a battle. So he's forced to be an outlaw. After Otsu rescues him from his punishment, he's desperate to be re-united with her, but is locked away inside a castle and prevented from seeing her. Yet he's incredibly strong and determined, and never gives up on Otsu. He can be seen as a Jerkass Woobie as well for being arrogant, judgemental, but still sympathetic, for being terribly lost.
  • Moment of Awesome: Otsu rescuing Takezo.
  • The Scrappy: Otsu is viewed as this for being too weepy.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Takezo and Otsu are paired together very quickly, especially after she rescues him from being hung from the tree in the courtyard. Mind you, after all he's gone through, Takezo is very grateful.
  • Tear Jerker: Takezo, locked away in Himeji Castle, away from his beloved Otsu, collapsing in tears.
