  • Harsher in Hindsight: Fry shooting people in a theater during a violent scene onscreen is quite uncomfortably reminiscent of the Aurora theater massacre that happend during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises 70 years later.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Quite a few, as Kane bumps into one endearingly oddball character after another. These include a bored truck driver who's thrilled to be pulled over by the cops, a blind piano player who strives to see the goodness in everyone, and an argumentative sideshow troupe.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Robert Mitchum makes an early film appearance as a passerby on the stairs in the factory.
    • Will Lee, the future Mr. Hooper, plays the factory worker with the bandaged hands who gets questioned by police after the fire.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Bones comparing the arguments of the circus performers to the fractured opinions over the current world situation, and the democracy-versus-fascism debate between Kane and Tobin, clearly mark it as a product of the period just after the United States entered World War II. Apparently, those scenes were Dorothy Parker's main contributions to the screenplay.
