• Broken Base: SMPRonpa caused one in the SMPLive fandom in 2019, between people who thought the fic was fun and interesting, and those who thought it was inappropriate and creepy. The former tended to be Twitter users, while the latter were usually on Tumblr.
• Common Knowledge: Prior to the fic's recovery, many people believed that Altrive's father was shot in it, due to something Carson said on his "serious stream". In actuality, this is untrue — family members are only mentioned once in the entire fic, and only in the context of a light-hearted flashback scene.
• Condemned by History: For a good while, the fic was demonized by MCYT fans even who weren't in the SMPLive fandom, as rumors about the controversy warped over the years. This has softened as of the fic's resurfacing.
• Critical Backlash: General opinion on SMPRonpa over the years has shifted to be much more sympathetic, with many people saying that it didn't deserve the treatment it received, as it was a relatively tame fanfiction based on a video game, and a majority of the streamers featured as characters either talked about the fic positively, made jokes about it, or didn't say anything at all.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Upon the fic's rediscovery, people were quick to point out the similarities between it and Ranboo's 2023 series Generation Loss, which features some streamers that were in SMPRonpa and is similarly violent. People were especially amused by this due to Ranboo having been a fan of SMPLive.
• It Was His Sled: Charlie's "death" via a guitar and freezer has been memed into the ground so hard that it tends to be one of the few things people know about the fic.
• Less Disturbing in Context: The fic's plot tends to make a lot of people wary — streamers killing each other in cruel and unusual ways — but it becomes less uncomfortable with the context that this plot is based on a popular video game franchise.
• Overshadowed by Controversy: For years, the controversy was the only thing that a good portion of the MCYT fandom knew about SMPRonpa.
• Popularity Polynomial: SMPRonpa was very popular in the fandom when it first came out, but faded into obscurity besides being used as a warning over the years following it vanishing. When it resurfaced, SMPRonpa managed to end up trending on Twitter.
• Signature Scene: The fic is permanently associated with Charlie's freezer death in the eyes of the wider fandom.
• Spiritual Successor: To an earlier DR/MCYT crossover fanfiction, Dangan Ronpa Minecraft, written by MangoKiwi in 2014.
• Watch It for the Meme: When the fic resurfaced, a lot of people who knew nothing about SMPLive itself read it due to the memes.
