YMMV / SMOK: Legend Of The Laid-Back Heroes

Go To

  • Bizarro Episode: The hallucination brought by overdosing on Haachama's cooking is a deliberately nonsensical level that ends in the protagonist marrying Yagoo.
  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game: The game itself is deliberately easy and combat can often take seconds, but it truly shines in the story, which is filled with a lot of in-jokes from hololive and the genre as a whole.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Of course the Demon Lord enjoys acting insufferably smug, provoking opponents into trying to kill him, which just makes him stronger if they succeed.
  • Game-Breaker: While the game's itch.io page states that combat is deliberately easy, Ookami Mio's healing abilities pretty much remove any challenge from any player that knows what they're doing. They're very potent, with one ability allowing you to heal a character back to full health, while another substantially heals the whole party. Their mana cost is but a small fraction of her total MP, and Mio's attacks are generally weak enough that not attacking for one turn won't be much of an issue.
  • Love to Hate: The Demon Lord is an immensely smug monster, but his sheer charisma and egocentrism make every scene he's in immensely enjoyable to read.
  • That One Level:
    • Any of the stealth sections, as they involve memorizing the enemy's movement patterns and instantly give you a Game Over over a simple mistake, requiring you to do a lot of tries for each section.
      • The worst case is probably the hallucination scene, as it also involves several pictures of Korone's face passing through the screen, blocking your sight and thus making you rely on having stopped at a spot where no one will look at you.
    • Escaping from the castle's cellar while being chased by Suisei. You have to press a series of buttons scattered across the map in a specific order indicated by the button you just pressed, which is already difficult to figure out. As an added complication, you have to outrun Suisei, an invincible NPC that's faster than you, probably by leading her into traps (that only momentarily stun her) and confusing her with which way you've taken in a crossroads. Even then, you can still end up face to face with her by sheer bad luck, requiring you to evade her again. Adding to the difficulty of this, the cellar is a labyrinthic place that will require some time to memorize, which in practice means dying over and over again in this puzzle.
