YMMV / SMG4 Movie: Western Spaghetti

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Meggy's reputation being as divisive as it is, even some of the people who hate her have admitted that One Shot Wren's torture of her by killing her over and over again and driving her into pure paranoia and fear in the Wild West Simulation was genuinely horrifying.
  • Alternative Character Interpretation: The Big Bad, One-Shot Wren. Given that his Lotus-Eater Machine is from the same source as the Completely Regular Keyboard, which corrupted SMG4 in the previous movie - was Wren's Faceā€“Heel Turn of his own volition, or was it induced via Cybernetics Eat Your Soul, which would make his Alas, Poor Villain scene even more poignant? For that matter, was his loss of the Splatfest championship what caused "the world to move on without him", or was it his Sore Loser tendencies and desire to always come out on top that drove people away?
  • Angst? What Angst?: Meggy doesn't seem to have any signs of mental scars or trauma after the events of the movie, which consists of her finding out that her idol is a monster behind the simulation she and her friends were trapped in, in addition to him torturing her by killing her over and over for a month until she was driven insane, only saved when Tari came to her rescue, in a process that the latter said was difficult. For comparison, it took her almost a year to fully get over Desti's death.
  • Evil Is Cool: One-Shot Wren has quickly become considered one of, if not the best Arc Villain in the series due to how well acted and genuinelly unsettling the character and their actions are.
  • Memetic Mutation: It's become commonplace to find SMG4 screaming at the wrecked construction site replaced with crazy sound effects.
  • Moral Event Horizon: If trapping the Glitchy Gang in a month-long Wild West simulation didn't clue you to how rotten he can get, One-Shot Wren fully sails over the line when he subjects Meggy to a terrifying, bloody "Groundhog Day" Loop as she tries to escape, driving the poor girl to the brink of insanity until Tari calms her down. Keep in mind that Wren was her idol.
  • Obvious Judas: Given how unhinged and deranged One-Shot Wren looked in the trailer's footage, it was easy for fans to guess he's the villain.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: While SMG4 is typically known for being surreal and absurd most of the time, the movie Western Spaghetti has a notable exception in the villain One-Shot Wren. He was once a Champion of Splatfest, with all of the fame and glory that came with it...until he lost everything. He becomes absolutely obsessed with doing anything to get back his fame and glory, and to relive his Splatfest days forever. While the actual method is pretty fantastical involving a Wild West Simulation, his attitude is disturbing in just how realistically unhinged he is, being so utterly obsessed with reliving his past that he simply doesn't care who he ends up harming in the process. To that end, he resorts to kidnapping and torturing the people related to his fixation, especially targeting Meggy for his cold-blooded cruelty simply because she refuses to play along with his deranged fantasies. All in all, he ends up easily one of the more terrifying villains precisely because of just how small-scale and grounded his cruelty is based on.
