YMMV / Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1948)

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: When Santa asks for Rudolph's help; Rudolph is in bed, with Santa at his bedside, slowly putting his hands on Rudolph's shoulders and telling him: "I need you tonight!"
    • This is soon followed by Rudolph lighting Santa's walk down the hallway, which looks far more inappropriate than it should be interpreted.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Rudolph's mother being nice to him.
    • An ashamed Rudolph hides his nose under his blanket in front of Santa, only for the latter to sweetly pluck it off again before he makes his fateful request.
    • After Rudolph returns to the North Pole on Christmas morning, Santa honors his achievement by putting a metal around his head. Before the cartoon ends, Rudolph looks at the viewer and says "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight" as "Silent Night" closes out the cartoon. Some versions of the cartoon would instead perform a reprise of the "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" song from the opening title of the short.
    • After the cartoon's release, The Jam Handy Organization (the producers) created this sweet Christmas Card featuring Rudolph.
  • Tear Jerker: While Rudolph remains cheerful and excited for Santa's visit on Christmas Eve at bedtime. He suddenly remembers the name calling some of the reindeer are saying about his nose (which are echoing in his head). As a result, Rudolph ends up crying himself to sleep while a sad violin rendition of "Brahms's Lullaby" begins playing.
