YMMV / Rubberbandits

Go To

  • Bilingual Bonus: They released an as Gaeilge version of their song "I Want To Fight Your Father", which includes a few subtle changes in order scan better and make more sense in context.
  • Genius Bonus: In Limerick, where the duo is based off of, you really do see people riding horses around (cars being rather expensive, and with a decent amount of Irish Traveller people in the city and surrounding area).
    • Many of their songs have audial references to famous hip-hop and funk songs, and some of their songs also have historical or cultural references. "Up Da Ra' is a mess of allusions to various periods of Irish resistance against English rule, mixed with acts of terror by the I.R.A, and is intended as a satire of "armchair republicans".
    • They published a video postulating that ISIS/Daesh was a Baudrillardian Hyper-real Simulacrum on their Facebook. Blind Boy has a degree in philosophy.
  • Ho Yay: In buckets. Discounting that according to their Channel Four material they live together, they have a song (Pure Awkard) about Blind Boy accidentally shifting Ice Cube, "Black Man" is described by Blind Boy as "gay racist", they were prominent in the Yes Campaign for the Irish marriage referendum, in the 1916 special they kiss each other as part of a segment about Sir Roger Casement and have a generally homoerotic/homoromantic vibe going on. That's not even mentioning one of their albums is titled Serious About Men.
  • Memetic Mutation: 'Horse Outside' and its chorus became this. In December, groups based on the song's lyrics were hugely popular on Facebook.
    • Some of the Rubberbandits' catchphrases, including 'Copper piiipe!' and 'That's Limerick citaaay!', have also achieved memetic status, as has the words "yurt" and "gowl".
