- Alternate Character Interpretation: Was Riquinni offering Shiro an apology for slugging him during his near-assault of her just a case of turning the other cheek? Or was she offering an apology for, as Bennett the Sage postulated in his review of the film, resorting to the same violence her pacifist faith abhors?
- Awesome Music: The opening theme by Ryuichi Sakamoto.
- Macekre: Star Quest.
- Moral Event Horizon: Shiro's attempted sexual assault of Riquinni.
- Nightmare Fuel: Shiro being chased by an assassin that he just can't shake off.
- Retroactive Recognition: The English dub features Bryan Cranston as Marty Tohn, years before he became a household name for his roles in Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad.
- Values Dissonance: While Shiro attempting to force himself on Riquinni is portrayed in a negative light, the fact that a non-villain protagonist attempts rape, and that the victim apologizes afterwards, and that the whole thing gives said protagonist Character Development is even more jarring today than it was in The '80s.
