YMMV / Rockman 7 EP

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: Can't stand the series' usual instant death spikes? Not only are spikes not an instant kill here, but it feels awesome to ride a Truck Joe's truck in Turbo Man's stage and destroy the spike pits.
  • Contested Sequel: Despite the impressive use of ASM, this mod can feel quite lacking in comparison compared to Rockman 4 Minus Infinity due to the music tracks being reused from Mega Man 7, bosses having the same colour as the originals, only one Superboss fight, no Mechanical Arena, and the Wily Fortress level design being criticized for being overly experimental and throwing E-Tanks at you to get you through them. That's not even counting the final level and Bass whose sheer tedium in both winning and losing against him makes him the worst boss fight in the game.
  • Ending Fatigue: While not quite as prolonged as Rockman 4 Minus Infinity's ending, the Wily Fortress starts to drag on towards the end. The final Wily stage (which is the new fifth stage rather than the fourth) takes over twenty minutes even for a fast player, owing to its four lengthy Multi-Mook Melee rooms, rematches with all eight mid-bosses, and one more level segment and a Marathon Boss afterwards.
  • Funny Moments: When you select a stage, each Robot Master's intro now has a little text blurb accompanying it. They're mostly relevant to the boss and their abilities or stage... except for Shade Man's. His happily declares "I LIKE TEXAS TOAST".
  • Game-Breaker: Self-Burning is PureSabe's follow-up to Hell Wheel, and manages to be even stronger. It turns Mega Man's whole body into a rapid-damaging hitbox and makes him immune to contact damage while active, protecting him from a lot of enemies and mini-bosses. It has great environmental uses as well, letting Mega Man walk through lava, light up rooms, and boil underwater enemies. To top it off, it uses energy only when activated instead of draining it continuously, allowing it to be kept on throughout entire stages. Its only disadvantages are not protecting against bullets and being the boss weapon of the fairly tough Turbo Man.
  • Sequel Difficulty Drop: Rockman 7 EP is a big difficulty drop from Rockman 4 Minus Infinity (one of the harder mainstream Mega Man hacks out there), due to its plentiful healing items, strong weapons, lack of Superbosses outside of (the not-so well hidden) Proto Man, and Mega Man 7 at its core being easier than Mega Man 4.
  • That One Sidequest: Want to get the 999 gear item in Auto's shop? Well the way to do it is to beat Wily's second stage with a AAA ranking, which will net you 999 gears for you to buy the item, which reduces the Rush Adaptor's charge time, making it really useful for the following stage (or be really careful on how you spend gears and wait until the very last level).
