YMMV / Robotech: Battlecry

Go To

  • Anti-Climax Boss: The final fight with Zeraal is meant to be something of an All Your Powers Combined boss using abilities and weapons from previous bosses Kiyora and Skarrde. However in practice there is plenty of room to freely outmaneuver his missiles in the final arena and since the fight takes place in outer space you can use the Super Veritech armor to completely trivialize the fight.
  • Awesome Music: The main theme that plays in the intro and during the main menu will get your blood pumping.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Bosses will taunt you if you die fighting them, but sometimes your own Mission Control will get in on it.
"If you weren't dead, I'd have you court martialed!"
    • Jack meets superstar idol singer Minmei and needs to escort her to safety. It's hard to tell if he's starstruck or weirded out by how nonplussed she is to be picked up by a giant robot. Then again, this is just a regular afternoon for her.
    "Um...wow. It's really you..."
    • You can cause quite a bit of collateral damage during city missions as long as you don't destroy any actual escort targets. Jack's reactions help downplay the destruction:
"That's coming out of my paycheck."
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus of the game is that, while the Veritech controls are good and being able to change between three different modes on your fighter is a lot of fun, the game is held back by how almost every single level of the game is an Escort Mission in addition to taking place in repetitive and bland environments.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The Destroid Monsters in Chapter 5. This is the only stage they appear in for the entire game and they are certainly imposing, unfortunately they're stuck in yet another Escort Mission.
  • That One Achievement: Some of the medals which unlock various paint jobs, Veritech models and other things can fall into this. For example to get the stealth paint job, one of the coolest ones in the game, you have to kill fifty Male Power Armors with the sniper function. Get ready to replay "None Shall Pass" over and over.
  • That One Level: Multiple:
    • The Cat's Eye escort missions, where you have to protect an unarmed recon plane from Zentraedi fighter pods.
    • The "Little Mesa Massacre" mission, where, at the start, you have to take out some Scout Pods without them alerting the Zentraedi. Sniping the Scout Pods would've been a breeze if Hiro could've just waited for you to take them out before running up the road and getting spotted.
    • The final mission involving the assault on Zeraal's beached flagship is a Marathon Level where you'll have to face multiple stationary turrets, Male Power Armor snipers and also briefly stop to save some downed pilots and bring them to safety. Due to the game's Checkpoint Starvation, that being there are no checkpoints, expect to retry this stage several times if a sniper gets a lucky shot on you towards the end.
