  • Broken Base: The events of "Unseen Hand", in which the Justice League has Martian Manhunter trap Ren in an illusion where he is able to stop Batman from Taking the Heat for his actions to act as a Secret Test of Character, are extremely divisive among the readerbase. Some readers argue that these are actions are fully justified in stopping Ren from sabotaging himself and others through his actions, while others argue that it was a largely selfish act at the expense of Ren's agency and pushing the limits of how far he can be reasonably willing to trust others.
  • Funny Moments:
    • When Ren mugs the guy who mugged him at gunpoint, he quickly realizes how bad it looks to the onlookers, but gets tongue-tied trying to explain himself. The mugger starts Playing the Victim Card, and Ren just takes his money back and runs.
Ren: [standing over the mugger] I… you robbed me! [points a finger at him] He robbed me.
      Mugger: This psycho attacked me!
Ren: See? He had a gun. He mugged me! I just… [gives up] Just... give me my money back. [to the reader] God, it totally looks like I'm mugging him.
    • While trying to figure out a use for his Barista skill, Ren considers starting a MeTube channel on brewing coffee to earn some prestige points. He then considers doing it shirtless for even more views.
    • The author admits that he had to reroll for the first time because the item Ren got from his roll was... a yacht. Which wouldn't really make much sense for use in a spar against Kaldur aside from crushing him under it.
  • Older Than They Think: Some readers interpreted the Dysfunction Junction of The Team as well as the League's poor handling of the teens' problems to be a form of bashing, when in fact these problems were prevalent since episode 1 of the actual Young Justice show.
  • The Woobie: Ren has not had an easy time. His family has always suffered from money problems, and his attempts to alleviate them through his gambling habit end with him getting shot in the head. Even after he recovers, he's haunted by his near-death experience as well as the death of his physical therapist in another attempt on his life. This is why he throws himself into the superhero life to prevent more tragedies, only to end up humiliated and torn into on the internet. Despite this, he continues to work toward stopping Black Mask and resolves to be a better superhero rather than cracking beneath the pressure.
