YMMV / Rise and Fall: Civilizations at War

Go To

  • Game-Breaker: All factions are allowed to upgrade their Town Centers into Town Defense structures. These buildings will automatically spawn a large group of fully leveled infantry and archers to attack any enemies who get into range of the Town Defense. While having these upgraded buildings are great for defending your base, it is a severe annoyance to assault an enemy base which is full of Town Defenses.
  • Scrappy Mechanic
    • Units are constructed as individuals, but can be formed into formations, as well as or split apart. Unfortunately, this can be incredibly tedious to quickly form an army since the units are not immediately in formation.
    • Units will automatically split from formation and into individuals when on ships and walls. This completely removes any training/formation bonuses. This is especially crippling for the Greeks, Romans, Persians; as these factions rely on these bonuses in their strategies.
    • Trying to land a ship. Sometimes the ship will dock perfectly, but most of the time, the ship will refuse to land on even the most optimal shores. This essentially prevents the player from landing troops in either attacking or defending.
    • Grappling or ramming ships can be very clunky.
    • Rotation of buildings for placement is quite clunky, and ladder mechanics for sieging walls are sloppy.
  • That One Level:
    • The Persian Arena mission in Alexander's campaign.
