YMMV / Richie Rich (1980)

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance: Throughout the show's run, the Rich household has employed several robots. Such as a robot bank teller, robot cleaning units, and robot security guards. Considering that Irona was a creation of Professor Keenbean, it would make sense for him to make other robots that would be useful in Rich Manor.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The show was VERY popular in India. So much that some of the most popular videos of the show online are of the Hindi dub.
  • Karmic Overkill: Reggie usually ends up bringing any embarrassment that happens to him upon himself as a result of his pranks on Richie, but his comeuppance in the episode "The Midas Touch" ends up bordering on unfair: Reggie takes a glove invented by Keenbean that turns objects to gold, and accidentally turns several people into gold statues while fooling around with it. Despite willingly cooperating with Richie to rescue the people turned to gold when a crooked chauffeur steals them, when the episode ends with Reggie accidentally turned into a gold statue himself, Richie and Keenbean decide to have Reggie serve as a scarecrow in the Rich family garden until the device that can restore him to normal recharges. Granted, there wasn't much else Richie and Keenbean could do with Reggie until the reversing glove could be recharged anyway, but the way they end up going about things feels rather mean-spirited after Reggie had sincerely tried to right the wrongs he had made throughout the episode.
  • Moment of Awesome: Richie and his friends are held for ransom aboard a rocket ship. To pay it, Richie tells Mr. Rich to send up "their most prized possession." It turns out to be Irona, who effortlessly busts everyone loose.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Nancy Cartwright got her first major voice role as Gloria Glad.
