YMMV / Resident Evil The Board Game

Go To

  • Broken Base: During RE 1's Kickstarter campaign, backers were allowed to vote on which characters could become Advanced. However, only six (later seven) would be allowed to gain Advanced forms, the others missing out entirely. Depending on your point of view, this was either a fun way to increase backer interactivity, or a rough mechanic that could possibly sell more obscure characters short. Needless to say, when it was revealed that the five characters who missed out on Advanced versions would be getting their own in the Fallen Five expansion, just about everyone was celebrating.
  • Demonic Spiders: Brain Suckers in RE 3 easily qualify. They have a high threat level, hit like a truck, and are capable of inflicting poison. Worst of all, they can appear as early as the Uptown scenarios, where ammunition and weaponry is still scarce.
  • Game-Breaker: While not explicitly forbidden by the rules, it's recommended in the rulebook not to use certain characters early or out of context, and it shows. Using unlockable characters early (Barry and Tyrell are great examples of this), or solo-only characters in a multiplayer scenario (HUNK especially, as he was designed for 4th Survivor), and you'll be playing a very different game.
  • Memetic Mutation: A running gag for the Kickstarter backers is to "praise" a seemingly obscure enemy or part of the game (such as the Moth in RE 2, or Nikolai's helicopter in RE 3). Hilariously enough, these were actually incorporated into the games as enemies due to fan feedback.
  • Nightmare Fuel: It's an adaptation of a Survival Horror game, so it's to be expected. Card art for various enemies such as Nemesis and William Birkin are just as unsettling in the original games.
  • That One Attack: The T-103 Tyrant in RE 2 has the unique distinction of being the only boss in the entire series to be capable of killing a character outright, rather than knocking them unconscious, and it can hit multiple survivors at once.
