  • Angst? What Angst?: Going onto the Birthday Apartment floor... with Poob in the elevator. They don't really take offense to you and your friends demolishing their pad, and they even lampshade the fact saying that it livens things up.
  • Awesome Music: The new music for the UES floor, titled "where's jaoba?", has an unsettling, yet calm vibe to it.
  • Broken Base: Gnarpy's redesign. Some like it because of how off-putting it looks compared to the other NPCs, fitting with the fact that Gnarpy is an alien, while others hate it for the same reason. Xyr menacing in-game pose, crossing xyr arms and stuff, either perfectly shows the fact xe's a Jerkass or ruined the point of xem being a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
  • Demonic Spiders: Clover, the hostile NPC on the Backrooms floor. Contact with him is a One-Hit Kill, he can dash at players through walls with a wide hitbox that's difficult to evade, and he can come with up to three extra Clovers wandering the halls with him.
  • Fanfic Fuel: Some people get a little too deep into Wallter and Mannequin_Mark's divorce.
  • Love to Hate: Even though Gnarpy is a huge asshole who bosses around the other NPCs and made Spud into the thing he is now, some fans don't care about that and continue to like xem. A few people even said that they began to like xem more because xe tortured Spud.
  • Memetic Mutation: There are quite a few memes that have emerged from the fandom.
    • White Bive/Today I found out that Split and Bive are canon. Yeah. Anyway my human design of Bive. Explanation
  • Moral Event Horizon: Gnarpy and xyr species apparently invaded a camp that Spud was residing in, then Gnarpy captured Spud and experimented on him, making him into the way he is now. Gnarpy even says that the camp deserved it in one of xyr dialogue, which is just the final straw for xem.
  • Most Wonderful Sound:
    • The sounds that some NPCs make when talking, such as Bive's laughter, or Poob's partyhorn.
    • The "Woo!" sound that plays after you rescue an NPC on the singleplayer version of Jeremy's floor.
  • Narm: A lot of the hostile NPCs on the more horror-inspired floors are... pretty goofy-looking. Scary Mike looks more like a mud-soaked Cloaker, the RockMen are hammy enemies with The Rock's head, and Döug is borderline Ugly Cute with his single eye and stubby legs.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Tarmite's unpredictable yet inevitable rush down the hallway in his floor will make you feel like you're in a horror movie.
  • Popular with Furries: Gnarpy, in virtue to (xyr old design) being an adorable alien cat with a hidden mean streak (especially when you take into account what xe did to Spud) garnered a lot of fans in the furry community. Although that's not to say xe got all the love; the taur-like Split, fluffy looking Bive and insectoid-esque Pest also have their fair share of furry fans.
  • The Scrappy: The 2024 April Fools' Day update added some particularly controversial characters.
    • Banrey, due to being seen as a lazy copy of MR who completely fails to capture what made MR work for some fans.
    • The Follower is even more hated, not only due to its nature as a constant pursuer, but causing actual panic attacks in players with specific phobias. Even those who don't have those phobias think The Follower's generic "static shadow humanoid" design makes it a very uninteresting threat.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: If you land on the "OFFICE OF" floor with MR in tow, Mach will appear in front of the doors and immediately destroy MR before the floor starts proper.
  • Tear Jerker:
  • That One Level: Some of Regretevator's various floors are very mechanically demanding of players when it comes to platforming.
    • "HALL OF" and "WALL OF" are both floors that see players outrunning a burning-hot incinerator. Of the two, "HALL OF" is the more brutal one, as both the player and incinerator move considerably faster, leaving less reaction time, and the pit below the incinerator becomes guaranteed instant death due to the lack of mid-run checkpoints. Expect to see complete wipes every time "HALL OF" is entered.
    • "Splitsville!", though not a floor where players can die, has very tricky platforming - particularly the final slide segment, which requires very good timing in order to reach the end.
    • The updated "Stanley's Office" floor now features a vertical platforming segment with randomly selected obstacles and a deceptively tight time limit. 100 seconds may seem like a lot of time, but the height of the building makes getting to safety eat up a massive chunk of the clock - one bad fall from high up can make drowning in concrete (unless the player is under the effect of Wet Cement) a foregone conclusion. A later update added 20 more seconds to the clock, but made the course much longer, tightening the time limit even further.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Bive and DrRETRO do not have any Tertiary Sexual Characteristics in their designs, so some may have thought they were male at first. This was one of the reasons why Bive's speaking sound was changed.
  • The Woobie:
    • Spud, in spades. He was originally a normal human with his friend in camp, until he became the way he is now thanks to Gnarpy, who experimented on him. Poor Spud received severe brain damage because of the incident, and his dialogue will mostly have a Verbal Tic Name because of it. In-game, if he and Gnarpy are in the same elevator, one of their dialogue is him attempting to call xem out about it, only for Gnarpy to harshly cut him off. To make it even worse, if MR enters the elevator and ends up cutting the lights while Spud is in, he will get burned alive like any other NPC. It's hard not to feel sorry for him.
    • It's hard not to feel bad for Infected when he starts crying and running away because of the elevator either being full or having MR in there. Poor guy...
    • Poob unfortunately has a case of this. When you reach the floor that happens to be their apartment while Poob is in the elevator, when you explode everything, they seem visibly upset, even if they say otherwise. They try to be friends with Pest, but Pest hates them and would rather be as far away from them as possible. It's also stated by Word of God that they have trauma from being constantly attacked by random strangers in the elevator. Worst of all, if they try to enter the elevator while MR is in it, they will frown and let the train passing by run them over and kill them. It's difficult not to pity them.
    • Split on the 2024 April Fools' Day update. She is left completely horrified and distraught at the fact that she's the only normal person on her own birthday, while all of the other NPCs have been deformed.
