YMMV / Redeeming Love

Go To

  • Designated Hero: Michael marries Angel when she's barely conscious and drags her back when she escapes from him. Don't think too hard about how this is, in fact, abuse and kidnapping.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Early in the novel, Michael can't get Angel to marry him and leave the brothel and can't get her out of his head either: "He worked until past dark every day and then sat before the fire, tormented with thoughts of her. He saw her face in the flames, beckoning to him. To hell itself, no doubt." Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame, released a couple of years later than this novel, has Frollo's Villain Love Song about how he is a virtuous, righteous man tormented by his obsession with a woman; he sees her face in the flames and says his burning desire is turning him to sin. At least Michael is capable of genuine love while Frollo is more filled with lust.
