YMMV / Red vs. Blue: Restoration

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: It's hinted that the film could also be one of Church's simulations, leaving it up to the audience whether the film is the canon ending or not.
  • Angst Aversion: Some fans have expressed reluctance to view the film as the series' ending because of the bleaker tone and that it ends with most of the main characters dead, missing, separated, or much worse off than before. Of particular note is Sarge's death, dying midway through the movie saving Caboose from the Tucker!Meta, resulting in Grif and Simmons having to watch their leader die and Tucker having to live with his body being used to kill his friend.
  • Fanfic Fuel: The fact that Church has run hundreds of simulations opens up all sorts of possibilities to explore, as well as a handy "out" for people who want to write their own ending and dismiss the finale as just another simulation.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: A common criticism the movie faces is that the amount of ideas it wants to cover couldn't be adequately covered in only a roughly ninety minute runtime, leaving the pacing rushed and several ideas unfulfilled, of particular note being Sarge's death and Wash's grief from Doc dying. Had the movie been a full season as it was originally marketed as such, many agree the plots could have been given much more adequate room to breath and possibly be much better received than they ended up being, but even then many feel that it would take a multi-season long arc to truly give many of these ideas justice.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Despite actually being in the movie compared to Donut and Sister, Tucker doesn't really get much of a personal conclusion to his character, instead being forced to be the new "Meta" for the majority of the movie, only appearing as himself Fighting from the Inside occasionally until he's actually freed.
  • Unexpected Character: Considering the seeming bad blood between their original voice and the rest of the crew, as well as their character only receiving cameos in the years since their departure, very few people expected Kathleen Zuelch to return and reprise her role as Tex for one final performance.
