• Harsher in Hindsight: Ace Rimmer shrugging off getting shot right in the sniper's triangle? Hilarious. Ace Rimmer spending the rest of the episode trying to conceal that he is a hologram, dying from the wound, and desperately trying to get Rimmer to take up Ace Rimmer's mantle before he dies... suddenly, it's not funny any more.
• Narm Charm: While the shot of the planetary ring made out of Ace Rimmer pods is a strong contender for the single worst effects shot in the show's entire run, it also succeeds in being an incredibly moving, powerful moment. Allowances can also be made for the fact that this would have been a very difficult effect to convincingly pull off even on a feature film budget at the time.
• Special Effect Failure: Series VII's CGI is almost uniformly dreadful, but the incredibly unconvincing shot of the many Ace Rimmer pods stands out as the worst. The godawful chroma key in the magic carpet scene isn't much better for that matter.
