YMMV / Red Ash

Go To

  • Fan Nickname: After the reveal that the game is being funded by dubious Chinese company FUZE, detractors started calling it an official Chinese knockoff of Mega Man Legends.
  • Fridge Brilliance: By itself, Red Ash is a fine name for a video game. However, when you take note that it was meant to be a spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends, which is known as Rockman DASH in Japan, suddenly the name can instead be read as Re:DASH.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • A lot of fans of Mighty No. 9 were left wondering if the huge delays and poor quality of MN9 was because, partially, Red Ash was taking development time off the project. It's questionable if it will even come out at all, and Comcept itself was sold off, having failed as a independent studio.
    • For a game said to be the Mega Man Legends counterpart for its franchise, the lack of updates on the game make it look like it will be walking the same path as its spiritual older sibling.
  • Tainted by the Preview: Comcept decided that it would be a good idea to release a prototype for Red Ash as a demo for those who backed the Kickstarter. Footage spread quickly around the fandom, and it didn't leave a good impression, to say the least. Even calling it a "prototype" might be giving it too much credit; it's more like a test project created by someone who was just learning Unreal Engine. It consists of a single tiny alleyway area, with no gameplay beyond walking, jumping, talking to NPCs (with a UI that consists of black text on a white square, and whose models are ripped from Mighty No. 9 as placeholders), and kicking cans, for some reason. Nothing about it suggests how the actual game would've played, which is the entire point of a prototype. You can experience everything the prototype has to offer in less than five minutes, the character controls feel terrible, the camera can clip through the environment, and what little animation exists is incredibly stiff. The prototype completely failed to build any hype in seeing a full game, quickly becoming just another piece in the pile of evidencenote  that the entire Red Ash project was rushed into production to try and capitalize on the disappointment of Mega Man Legends 3 being cancelled.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: The prototype allows Beck to kick a balloon of the very unpopular Dr. Sanda.
