YMMV / Red and Rover

• Heartwarming Moments:
  • One strip shows Red and Rover lounging in the sun, leading Red to remark that things don't get much better than this. Then Rover rolls over and "hugs" his boy with his forelegs. Red responds that he's been corrected.
  • Red and Rover are at the bus stop and Rover finds out about a problem his boy had recently. Red says that he didn't tell him so that he wouldn't worry constantly about him. Rover replies that it's too late for that: dogs always worry about their loved ones.
  • Another begins with Red putting himself through a varied exercise regimen. When Rover asks if he really thinks staying in peak condition will help him keep girls at bay when he gets older, Red answers that it has to; he doesn't want anyone to split them up.
• Tear Jerker:
  • One strip after the Columbia disaster shows Red and Rover sitting in their backyard in a cardboard box they'd painted to resemble a space shuttle and little kiddy space helmets. There's only one speech bubble, where Red says "Some stars shine brighter than most- to show us all the way.", and in the sky, there are 17 stars, for all the NASA astronauts ever lost while contributing to the space programme.^note  Namely, the three Apollo 1 astronauts (1967), the seven Challenger astronauts (1986), and the seven Columbia astronauts (2003).
  • One strip has Red's parents talking about his lack of friends. Red's mom says that Rover is the perfect friend and then comments more somberly that the time they'll need to worry is when Rover is no longer there.
